On May 21, 2025 at Fiore II in Middletown, Case Pikor, NACE CP1 and Pratik Murkute Ph.D., PE (FL), NACE CP Specialist will present the following dinner meeting topic: "Corrosion 101 & The Use of Galvanic Technologies to Mitigate Corrosion Reinforced Concrete Structures".

Case is an enthusiast for electrochemical science, and is always at the ready to address issues with galvanic corrosion and therefore the use of galvanics to extend service life of structures.

Pratik Murkute is Project Manager with VCS Engineering Inc. and he specializes in concrete investigations using non-destructive techniques. He is graduate of Oregon State University where he earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science, he earned his M. Tech in Materials Science from IIT Kanpur, India and a B. Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from VNIT Nagpur, India. He is an expert in the ferrous metallurgy and electrochemical, corrosion assessment of metals, with a focus on chloride-induced corrosion of steel in concrete. Pratik also has experience in non-destructive techniques, such as ground penetrating radar, acoustic testing, and impact echo with extensive knowledge in laboratory corrosion tests, steel metallurgy and materials engineering.

Corrosion of reinforcing steel is the leading cause of concrete deterioration, leading to costly repairs or even replacement of the structure. This presentation will include a comprehensive and scientific breakdown of the corrosion process, leading causes of corrosion and why it is essential to take corrective action for corrosion damage. Different corrosion mitigation approaches can be taken, whether it is during the repair process or implementing a proactive strategy to prevent concrete repairs from being necessary.

Attendees will walk away with the knowledge of understanding why and how reinforcing steel corrodes, methods and solutions to mitigate the damage and prevent additional corrosion related issues from arising in rehabilitated structures.

Additionally, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge to understand potential proactive measures for sound concrete to extend service life where corrosion damage is inevitable, thus saving them from costly future repairs

This presentation will be at 6pm Wednesday May 21st hosted at Fiore II located at 332 Main St, Middletown, CT 06457.

Cost of attendance is for SEAConn Members is $75.00.

    Nonmember price is $85.00.
